Housing Authority of Grant County

An innovative agency, the Housing Authority has recently earned recognition from the Washington State Housing Finance Commission by receiving a Friend of Housing Award, and has also won regional and national awards from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. The Housing Authority was the first public agency to install solar electric panels on its projects and by partnering with Eco Depot, an environmental firm in Spokane, now produces 23,000 watts of sun-generated electricity.

The agency plans to begin a major renovation of the Joseph Cove Apartments in Bridgeport in the fall of 2009, which will be its first project that complies with the Evergreen Sustainable Standard and requires the use of appliances and building materials that are beneficial to the environment and reduce indoor pollution by using low or no VOC paints. In addition to the Joseph Cove development, the Housing Authority plans to reduce energy consumption in nearly 200 Public Housing units by installing solar powered attic fans over the next few years.
